Aviation 101 Boeing 737
The Boeing 737 series is the best-selling jet airliner in history. The original 737-100 version which was able to carry 85 passengers, has over the years been improved and lengthened to the current -800 and -900 models that can carry 177 passengers or more and are 44 feet longer than the -100.
Design work on the 737 began in 1964 and was intended to provide a companion to the 727 for short distance and low volume routes. The initial 737-100 made its first flight in Apr. 1967 and entered commercial service in Feb. 1968 with Lufthansa. Subsequent upgraded models have been introduced over the years with the -700 and -800 versions making their debuts in 1997. In 2001 Boeing announced the latest additions to the 737 family: the 737 MAX to begin deliveries in 2017.
The 737 has been in continuous production by Boeing since 1967 and as of July 2015, a total of 8636 have been delivered with another 4264 on order. The 737 is operated by more than 500 airlines and comprises more than 25% of the worldwide fleet of large commercial jet airliners.

Note: There appears to be much confusion about this aircraft called "Paititi"; it's movement to Malaysia, leasing to Lorena Air by CSDS, supposedly false registration, which precluded it's being used by Lorena Air, and the reason for it's remaining in Malaysia. I will be curious to see how all of this plays out. As of 2014, "Paititi" was still stored in Subang Malaysia.
